Janmashtami 2022: The festival of Shri Krishna Janmashtami is very special in Hinduism. Janmashtami is celebrated not only in India but also by Indians who have settled abroad with full faith and joy. According to mythology, Lord Krishna was born on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadra, so this auspicious date is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. This festival is celebrated with much fanfare in Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna. Janmashtami Origin | Significance

Janmashtami is getting observed since the birth era of Lord Krishna. Janmashtami is the 5200+ years old ritualistic celebration of the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna.       

Krishna Janmashtami is a significant event in most Krishna temples. The cities and towns which are related to Lord Krishna, Janmashtami is a household celebration. In the historic cities, Mathura, Vrindavan, and Dwarka Krishna Janmashtami are celebrated as the birth anniversary of a family member.

How is Janmashtami Celebrated?

The festival of Janmashtami is celebrated with great pomp across the country. On this day, the beautiful makeup of Lord Krishna is done and tableaux are taken out at many places. The special beauty of this festival is seen in Mathura-Vrindavan, the birthplace of Lord Krishna. People from all over the country come here to see the beautiful sight of Krishna Janmashtami. There is also a tradition of swinging the child form of Lord Krishna on this day. On Janmashtami, fast is kept for the whole day and the fast is broken after worshiping Krishna at 12 o’clock in the night.

Shri Krishna Ji is worshiped three times on Janmashtami

First Puja: The first Puja on the day of Janmashtami is performed in the morning at sunrise. During this, people observing fast should worship the child form of Krishna.

Second Puja: The second Puja on the day of Janmashtami is performed in the afternoon. In the afternoon, perform Jalabhishek of Mata Devaki, after that worship should be done by constructing a Sutikagriha for her.

Third puja: The third puja of the day of Janmashtami is very special, which is done especially at 12 midnight i.e. at the time of Krishna birth. Worship the child form of Shri Krishna at this time.

Mantras for Janmashtami puja

1) Om namo bhagwate tasmai krishnaya kunthamedhase, sarvavyadhi vinashay prabho mamritam kridhi ||

ॐ नमो भगवते तस्मै कृष्णाया कुण्ठमेधसे, सर्वव्याधि विनाशाय प्रभो ममृतं कृधि ||

2) Om Namo Bhagwate Shri Govinday Namah ||

ॐ नमो भगवते श्री गोविन्दाय नम: ||

3) he Krishna Dwarkavasin Kvasi Yadavandan, Trivashvashu Janardana in Apbhi: Paribhutam  Mantrayasvashu Janardhan ||

हे कृष्ण द्वारकावासिन् क्वासि यादवन्दन, आप्भिः परिभूतां मं त्रयस्वाशु जनार्दन ||

4) Om Shree Namah Shrikrishnaya Paripurnatamaya Swaha ||

Krishna Janmashtami Puja Vidhi with Mantras:

The festival of Janmashtami is celebrated every year on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Bhadra month. The reason for this is that Lord Shri Krishna was born in the middle of the night in the Kansa prison of Mathura in the Taurus ascendant and Rohini constellation. It is also called Gokulashtami. you can call a Hindu priest as well to perform puja very well. Every year on this date, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna as the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu is celebrated. While worshiping them –

first of all say with water in hand in front of their statue or picture-

1) Shuddhi Mantra:

ओम अपवित्रः पवित्रोवा सर्वावस्थां गतोअपि वा।

यः स्मरेत पुण्डरीकाक्षं स बाह्याभ्यन्तरः शुचिः।।

Purify the water by sprinkling it on yourself and on the worship material.

2) Meditate on Shri Krishna with flowers in hand:

वसुदेव सुतं देव कंस चाणूर मर्दनम्। देवकी परमानंदं कृष्णं वन्दे जगद्गुरुम्।।

Greetings to you, O son of Vasudeva, who destroys Kansa and Chanur, makes Devaki happy, and is revered in the world.

3) Janmashtami Pooja Sankalp Mantra:

‘यथोपलब्धपूजनसामग्रीभिः कार्य सिद्धयर्थं कलशाधिष्ठित देवता सहित, श्रीजन्माष्टमी पूजनं महं करिष्ये।

Speak this Sankalp Mantra even with water, Akshat, flowers, or only water in your hand, because without making a resolution, you won’t get the fruit of devotion.

4) Lord Shri Krishna Invocation Mantra:

Those who have placed the idol of the Lord, they should first invoke the Lord in the idol with sesame barley in their hand, the invocation mantra –

अनादिमाद्यं पुरुषोत्तमोत्तमं श्रीकृष्णचन्द्रं निजभक्तवत्सलम्।

स्वयं त्वसंख्याण्डपतिं परात्परं राधापतिं त्वां शरणं व्रजाम्यहम्।।

Leave the sesame barley on the idol of God.

5) Asana Mantra:

Take water in the Argha and say –

रम्यं सुशोभनं दिव्यं सर्वासौख्यकरं शुभम्।

आसनं च मया दत्तं गृहाण परमेश्वर।।

Leave the water.

6) Pray to God:

Take water in the Argha and say –

अर्घ्यं गृहाण देवेश गन्धपुष्पाक्षतैः सह।

करुणां करु मे देव! गृहाणार्घ्यं नमोस्तु ते।।

Leave the water.

7) Achaman Mantra:

After mixing water and scent in the Argha, say –

 सर्वतीर्थसमायुक्तं सुगन्धं निर्मलं जलम्।

आचम्यतां मया दत्तं गृहत्वा परमेश्वर।।

Leave the water.

8) Bath Mantra:

Take water in Argha and say –

गंगा, सरस्वती, रेवा, पयोष्णी, नर्मदाजलैः।

स्नापितोअसि मया देव तथा शांति कुरुष्व मे।।

Leave the water.

9) Panchamrit Bath:

Mix Gangajal, milk, curd, ghee, honey in the Argha and offer Panchamrit bath to Lord Krishna while reciting this mantra

पंचामृतं मयाआनीतं पयोदधि घृतं मधु।

शर्करा च समायुक्तं स्नानार्थं प्रतिगृह्यताम्।।

Give bath to God, Taking water in the Argha, once again give a purification bath to the Lord.

10) Mantra to offer clothes to Lord Krishna:

Take yellow clothes in hand and say this mantra –

शीतवातोष्णसन्त्राणं लज्जाया रक्षणं परम्।

देहालअंगकरणं वस्त्रमतः शान्तिं प्रयच्छ मे।

Offer clothes to God.

11) Mantra for offering Yagyopaveet:

यज्ञोपवीतं परमं पवित्रं प्रजापतेर्यत्सहजं पुरस्तात्।

आयुष्मयग्यं प्रतिमुन्ज शुभ्रं यज्ञोपवीतं बलमस्तु तेजः।।

Offer Yagyopaveet to the Lord by reciting this mantra.

12) Mantra for applying sandalwood:

Chant the mantra with sandalwood in the flower –

श्रीखंड चंदनं दिव्यं गन्धाढ्यं सुमनोहरम्।

विलेपनं सुरश्रेष्ठ चंदनं प्रतिगृह्यताम्।।

Apply sandalwood to Lord Krishna.

13) Offer flowers to God

माल्यादीनि सुगन्धीनि मालत्यादीनि वै प्रभो।

मयाआहृतानि पुष्पाणि पूजार्थं प्रतिगृह्यताम्।।

Wear a garland after offering flowers to the deity.

14) Offer Durva to God:

Recite the mantra with Durva in hand –

दूर्वांकुरान् सुहरितानमृतान्मंगलप्रदान्।

आनीतांस्तव पूजार्थं गृहाण परमेश्वर।।

15) Offer Naivedya to God:

इदं नाना विधि नैवेद्यानि ओम नमो भगवते वासुदेवं, देवकीसुतं समर्पयामि।

16) Make God Aachman:

इदं आचमनम् ओम नमो भगवते वासुदेवं, देवकीसुतं समर्पयामि।

17) After this, by offering betel to the Lord, do circumambulation and say this mantra –

यानि कानि च पापानि जन्मान्तरकृतानि च।

तानि सर्वाणि नश्यन्तु प्रदक्षिण पदे-पदे ||

After this, pray for aarti and forgiveness.

Don’t do these things in Janmashtami 2022 puja

Do not disrespect or insult anyone on the day of Janmashtami. Treat people with kindness and kindness.

Do not bring any kind of bad thoughts to your mind on this day and do not say good or bad to anyone.

Wearing black-colored clothes should be avoided on this day. According to the scriptures, wearing black-colored clothes in worship is considered inauspicious.

It is considered auspicious to wear red or yellow clothes in worship on the day of Janmashtami.

If you offer any Bhog on Janmashtami, then definitely use Tulsi in it. No Bhog of Lord Krishna is kept without Tulsi.

According to the scriptures, do not take food made of rice or barley on Janmashtami today, because rice is also considered the form of Lord Shiva.

Do not leave even Laddu Gopal Ji alone on the day of Janmashtami. A family member should remain with God even after the birth anniversary. Otherwise, the worship is considered incomplete.

Do not eat food while observing the fast till 12 o’clock at the night till the time of the birth of Krishna.

One should definitely worship and serve cows on Janmashtami. For not doing so, Lord Shri Krishna gets angry.

Don’t forget to use stale flowers. Offering such flowers is said to be forbidden in the scriptures.

Eat satvik food on the day of Janmashtami. Do not use vengeful things like garlic and onion in the house.
